Sports Data Mining Book

In the Fall of 2010, Dr. Schumaker’s Sports Data Mining book was published. This book provides an overview of current state-of-the-art practices in data acquisition, mining, knowledge extraction and visualization techniques that are being implemented by sports enthusiasts and professional sports organizations alike.

Sports Knowledge Management and Data Mining Book Chapter

In 2010, Dr. Schumaker wrote “Sports Knowledge Management and Data Mining” in Annual Review of Information Science and Technology Volume 44 (Editor: Blaise Cronin). This chapter illustrates the many techniques that sports organizations can use to forecast outcomes, divine information and makes sense of the myriad of sporting data available.

CELTIC Excellence in Teaching Award

Dr. Schumaker was presented with the CELTIC Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009 for his work with “Exploring the Link between Internet Applications and Robotics.”

Rob was nominated for the Graduate Program Student Council Outstanding Research Assistant of the Year award.

Nominated for the James LaSalle Teaching Award (2006)

Rob was nominated for the prestigious James LaSalle Teaching Award that recognizes outstanding teaching contributions by Arizona’s MIS doctoral students.

Emergency Preparedness and Response Book Chapter

In 2006, Dr. Schumaker wrote “Chapter 10: Emergency Preparedness and Response” in the Intelligence and Security Informatics for International Security book (Editor: Hsinchun Chen). This chapter illustrates the ways that question-answering systems can couple with existing knowledge infrastructure to address the public’s typical questions in the event of an emergency, thus freeing emergency workers to better concentrate on rescue operations.
