Dr. Schumaker and his colleagues from CCSU recently published a sports analytics paper on using Twitter sentiment as a proxy for predicting Premier League soccer matches in the journal Decision Support Systems.

Dr. Schumaker has been named the Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Tyler. This represents an exciting opportunity to:

• build up the Computer Information Systems program from scratch,
• create a 21st century Information Technology degree curriculum,
• help create an NSA Center for Academic Excellence,
• found a Data Analytics Lab and
• work towards establishing a PhD program in Cyber-Security.

Passed the CompTIA Security+ certification exam.

Dr. Schumaker won the CCSU School of Business Hall of Honor Gold Award for Research. This is the School of Business’ highest research honor recognizing the work done in Grenier, E., Fair, C. and Schumaker, R., (2014). Social Media – Is it a Valid Source for Creating New Business? Passed the CompTIA Network+ certification exam.

Just had a poster accepted at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. So excited to be able to talk with fellow analytics experts and professional sports general managers.

I just found out this morning that I have been elevated to IEEE Senior Grade membership! Qualifications for Senior membership include having experience that reflects professional maturity, been in practice for ten years and demonstrate significant performance over the last five years. What an honor!

Rob was recently given the title of Fellow for his scholarly and service contributions to the International Information Management Association (IIMA) during the IIMA 2014 conference. It is an immense honor to receive the title of “Fellow.”

Dr. Schumaker received the Phi Kappa Tau – Phi Taus Under Forty Award which recognizes outstanding success and the embodiment of fraternal values. Dr. Schumaker was named Associate Editor for Decision Support Systems (DSS) journal. DSS is a well-respected top-tier MIS journal with an impact factor of 2.036.
